SEATTLE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A woman has been charged with misdemeanor assault after multiple people saw her kick and shake a toddler on a flight to Seattle.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the woman, 33-year-old Breanna Mistler, was detained on May 1 when the plane from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico landed in Seattle.

Witnesses on the plane reported that the Sacramento woman was woken up by the 2-year-old next to her and responded with kicking the child. One of the witnesses also reported she shook the child “like a rag doll” at another point in the flight.

Passengers allegedly attempted to intervene, but Mistler persisted with the abuse.

The child was placed into child protective services upon Mistler’s arrest before being placed with a relative.

Magistrate Judge Brian Tsuchida ordered today (May 6) that Mistler be detained for pending trial. He noted that the toddler was particularly vulnerable. Another hearing on the case is scheduled for May 16, 2024.
