FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A local fire station is going to the voters this fall to help it maintain critical emergency services.

Whatcom Fire District 7 Fire Chief Ben Boyko says they’re placing a levy lid lift measure on the November general election ballot

Boyko cites increased call volumes, aging infrastructure and rising operational costs as reasons for the proposed levy.

The lid lift would restore the district’s levy rate to $1.20 per $1,000 of assessed value, or $18 more per month for the owner of a $500,000 home.

The district says the added funds would ensure 24-hour staffing across its stations, keep equipment up-to-date and help improve response times.

Fire District 7 serves Ferndale and the surrounding area.

Ballots for the November election will be mailed out on Oct. 15.
