The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says that their deputies were called to help Lynden Police take a suspect into custody on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say that the suspect, identified as a 52-year-old man from Blaine, had displayed a handgun and left an area of the Guide Meridian.

The man was pulled over and arrested near the intersection of Axton Road. The gun accidentally went off and struck a deputy after the suspect was arrested.
