WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – If you have strong opinions and can put them into words, the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office wants to hear from you.

The Auditor’s Office is seeking volunteers to write “against” statements for several local ballot measures on the November ballot after no opposition committees were formed.

Openings are available for committees opposing ballot measures in Bellingham, Lynden and Fire District 1.

Bellingham has three measures that need opposition statements: Proposition 2026-06 would allow the city’s salary commission to set the mayor’s salary, Proposition 2026-07 streamlines the city’s contract review process by authorizing the use of electronic signatures and Initiative 2026-01 that prohibits the use of algorithmic price-fixing for rental rates in the city.

Lynden and Fire District 1 are looking for levy lid lifts, with the city asking for the lift to fund public safety and community resources like city hall staffing.

Applicants must be registered voters in the affected district and willing to serve on a committee. Those interested can email their name, voter registration address, phone number and the district they wish to represent to elections@co.whatcom.wa.us.

Appointments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.

The deadline to apply is Aug. 10. Individuals requesting appointment must be prepared to submit the statement by email on the same day.
