BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A change of command is coming soon to Whatcom Community College.

President Dr. Kathi Hiyane-Brown announced that she will be retiring as of March 1, 2025. She has been at the helm of the college’s leadership for the past 17 years.

During her tenure, Whatcom Community College (WCC) expanded their curriculum to include cybersecurity, health professions, engineering and social work.

The college’s cybersecurity program has even earned recognition from the White House, Washington state and was named a National Center for Excellence.

Dr. Hiyane-Brown also oversaw WCC’s physical changes, including facilities for new programs, student housing and an intercultural center.

WCC is in the process of creating a timeline to recruit and appoint their next president.
