UPDATE: All lanes reopen on I-5 NB in Smokey Point

SMOKEY POINT, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A brush fire near I-5 caused both NB lanes in Smokey Point to close this afternoon but have since reopened.

A brush fire broke out at the rest area at Smokey Point near Arlington Municipal Airport a little before 2 p.m. today. The rest area was closed, but reopened just after 3:00 p.m.

NB I-5 reopened around 4:15 p.m., according to a recent update from WSDOT.

No word yet on how large the fires were that spurred the closure nor if the fires are completely contained.
