EVERSON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – With red, white and blue stripes, towering at just over 8-feet-tall and the smile of Colonel Sanders staring into your soul, this “Big Ol’ KFC Bucket” can now be yours for $1000.

The retired Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) bucket sign, which is rumored to be from a previous KFC franchise in Whatcom County, was put up for sale recently on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. The initial listing has been reposted across Facebook and Reddit groups and has made waves as a unique item to own. But what is the story behind this larger-than-life lawn decoration?

Micah Moeller purchased the KFC bucket four years ago at an auction in Whatcom County. Moeller’s plan was to use it for social media content, but before placing it right in his front yard, he had to figure out a way to bring home this “really heavy” piece of KFC history.

“We had a tractor here and then I another guy at the auction know some other guy with a tow truck. It was, like, $200 to get it just four miles up the road,” Moeller said.

Soon enough, the KFC bucket landed in the spot that it is at today. The bucket is simply perched on an ad hoc set of wood slabs and dirt and has not moved much since it was first placed in the front yard of Moeller’s home.

Moeller then used the larger-than-life KFC bucket to make content for his TikTok page. After getting the attention of none other than KFC themselves, Moeller was then contacted to make sponsored content on behalf of the company.

“I ended up using it for a video and KFC actually ended up reaching out to me and sponsoring a series of videos. So, I did handful of videos for them with the bucket, which was kind of funny,” Moeller said. “So it paid itself off and then some.”

After four years of owning the now famous KFC bucket, Moeller says it is time to part ways with what may be the greatest TikTok prop of all time. The struggle he has ran into the most is that some people are willing to take the bucket off of his hands for the asking price or even more, but then they come back and say that they are not interested due to their significant others denying the purchase.

“A common problem is people’s wives not wanting a big bucket on the yard… and also transportation because it is very cumbersome and very heavy,” Moeller said.

Moeller hopes that this KFC bucket finds the right home sometime soon and even mentioned his ideal place for it to soon reside.

“I think just a loving home or just someone who likes things a little bit out of the ordinary you know – or a chicken farm,” Moeller said. “This is just great, it’s a lawn ornament.”

So, if you find yourself driving on the backcountry roads of Whatcom County, you may see the friendly face of Colonel Sanders smiling right back at you. If you have a spare $1000 lying around and a significant other who is willing to host this unique lawn decoration, Micah Moeller may have the thing just for you.
