FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A teenage suspect has been arrested in connection to the unfounded bomb threat at Ferndale High School earlier this month.

Ferndale Police say a 14-year-old from Canada was arrested on Monday, Oct. 28, in connection to dozens of threats they are believed to have made across the country, including at Ferndale High School.

Special Agent Craig Tremaroli, who’s in charge of the FBI’s Albany, NY field office, says investigators have linked the teen to incidents across 12 states and throughout Canada. His alleged targets included schools, universities, restaurants, government organizations, police departments and airports.

Ferndale High School had to be evacuated on Oct. 3 after local authorities received an anonymous report of a bomb threat. The district and police department said in their statement that similar calls were made in the following weeks which they assessed and responded to appropriately.

Local authorities are calling the threat a “swatting incident,” which is a nationwide trend where someone falsely reports a serious emergency in an attempt to spread disruption and fear.
