MOUNT VERNON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The suspect in Monday’s drive by shooting in Mount Vernon has been arrested after leading police on a chase that ended in Bellingham.

Mount Vernon Police Lt. Dave Shackleton says the suspect was located by Anacortes Police at around 11 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30.

The man fled north to Bellingham before Washington State Patrol used spike strips to slow him down near the Samish Way exit and took him into custody.

The arrest comes after Mount Vernon Police responded to a shooting on E. College Way on Monday afternoon that sent a 41-year-old man to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

The suspect, identified as a 28-year-old Oak Harbor man, has been charged with drive by shooting, first degree assault and attempting to elude a police vehicle. He remains at the Skagit County Jail without bail.
