BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A suspect is in custody after a statue was vandalized at Zuanich Point Park over the weekend.

According to the Bellingham Police Department activity log, officers responded to a report of malicious mischief at the park around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 12.

The Port of Bellingham later shared photos on social media showing graffiti splattered on the Safe Return statue, also known as the Fisherman’s Memorial.

The monument, which was erected in 1999, honors commercial fishing families and those who lost their lives at sea.

The Port said its maintenance team has been working to restore the statue. They also confirmed that Bellingham Police have made an arrest in the case.
