BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Whatcom County fire station will soon undergo a long-awaited renovation.

South Whatcom Fire Chief Mitch Nolze says that Fire Station 22, better known as the Sudden Valley Station, recently received a building permit from the county.

Construction on the building is scheduled to begin around Oct. 6.

Nolze said that following a standard bidding process, Tiger Construction was awarded a contract to repair and remodel the building. Equipment and other materials are now being moved from the station and nearby administrative buildings ahead of the construction start date.

Fire crews will temporarily work out of Station 21, or the Geneva Fire Station.

Administrative services will be based out of the Valley Mall facility on Lake Whatcom Boulevard.

Station 22 is expected to reopen sometime next year.
