SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A complete burn ban will soon be in effect in unincorporated Skagit County, joining broader restrictions already in place across Washington.

The Skagit County Fire Marshal’s Office says all outdoor open burning will be prohibited beginning just after midnight Wednesday, Aug. 12 because of ongoing wildfire danger and the strain on firefighting resources statewide.

Agricultural burning will still be allowed under state and local regulations.

The move brings Skagit County in line with neighboring Whatcom County, where a Stage 2 burn ban has prohibited all outdoor open burning since mid-July.

Propane fire tables, gas-fueled cooking appliances, charcoal grills and wood pellet grills may still be used with proper safety precautions.

Residents within city limits should check with their local fire department for any additional restrictions.
