Severe weather shelter extends availability in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham’s severe weather shelter is expanding its availability this weekend as overnight temperatures continue to drop.

The county-operated shelter will now be open overnight through this Sunday. Check-in is from 4 to 8 p.m. and checkout is at 8 a.m. the following morning.

Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis for the shelter at 925 N. Forest Street.

Bellingham’s day-time severe weather shelter is also open at the old Lighthouse Mission drop-in center on 1013 W. Holly Street.

It will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Monday if enough staff and volunteers are available.

Ferndale’s severe weather shelter will be open nightly through Saturday, Jan. 24.

And Lighthouse Mission Ministries remains open nightly from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Overnight lows are forecast to drop to the mid-to-low 20’s throughout the weekend.
