SAN JUAN ISLAND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The state is extending the salmon-fishing season in our area.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife says the San Juan Islands will be open for one extra day of fishing on Friday, July 26. The agency says daily catch records indicate there is enough Chinook salmon left to briefly keep the summer season open.

Anglers are limited to one salmon per day.

Any Chinook caught has to be at least 22 inches long, but there’s no minimum size for all other salmon.

Fish and Wildlife is also extending the sockeye season on the Skagit River through Wednesday, July 30.

All salmon other than sockeye have to be released on the Skagit River, and all sockeye have to be at least 12 inches with a limit of four per day.
