SEATTLE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Food and Drug Administration says that Aquastar Corp of Seattle has issued a recall for tens of thousands of bags of potentially radioactive shrimp.

Impacted products include Aquastar’s Raw Peeled Tail-on Shrimp Skewers, Kroger Raw Colossal EZ Peel Shrimp, and Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail-Off Shrimp.

The FDA says that Cesium-137, a radioactive isotope, can be found in food products grown or raised in contaminated areas.

While low amounts of Cesium-137 aren’t harmful, repeated ingestion of contaminated products can lead to a higher risk of developing cancer.

KGMI previously reported that the same isotope was discovered in imported frozen shrimp last month.

The latest recall applies to products sold between June 12 and September 17 at Fred Meyer and QFC locations in Washington State.

Anyone who may have purchased the shrimp is asked to either throw it out or return it to the store for a full refund.
