WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Puget Sound Energy (PSE) customers will see a moderate rise in their energy bills over the next two years.

The Utility and Transportation Commission (UTC) approved new rate increases for PSE electric and natural gas customers on Jan. 15.

The average residential electric user can expect their average monthly bill to increase by roughly $13, or 12%, in 2025. An additional 6% increase is expected in 2026.

Meanwhile, the typical residential gas customer can expect an average monthly increase of $7.50, or 9.4%, followed by an additional 1.9% increase in 2026.

The UTC says its decision on the rate hikes reflects support for the state’s transition towards clean energy while considering its impact on lower-income households. The commission adds that it denied several requests by PSE, including a proposal for targeted electrification, citing the recently passed natural gas initiative.
