GLACIER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Postal service in one small Whatcom County community will continue.
U.S. Representative Rick Larsen wrote a letter to the Postmaster General on Nov. 18 requesting clarity on the operations at the Glacier Post Office after residents expressed concerns about service in the area.
Residents said they were worried about service disruptions, lack of stamp sales and even the possibility that the Post Office could close down.
In a response letter on Dec. 5, Postmaster General David Steiner reassured the congressman that service in Glacier will continue and that the office is not closing.
Steiner says the Glacier Post Office is a contract postal unit, or CPU, where the USPS has partnered with private individuals to provide retail services, mail acceptance, delivery and other special services.
Sadly, the contractor in Glacier recently passed away.
Steiner says service at the office has “continued normally” and they’ve been working with employees to keep the location open while they finalize a new contract.
