DEMING, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Plans are in place to close Truck Road east of Deming for six months starting this summer.

Whatcom County Public Works says the county received FEMA funding to repair the road after it was damaged during the Superbowl 2020 flood.

That damage was aggravated during the November 2021 flooding, prompting the county to begin an emergency project on the site.

The second phase of repairs is planned to start this summer to finish remaining work on the road and add necessary steps to protect the environment.

A detour is expected to be in place from June through the end of November.

The Whatcom County Council will hold a public hearing on March 19 before officially closing the road.

Community members are encouraged to voice their opinions about the proposed closure.
