WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Most residents in Western Washington have their power back following last week’s bomb cyclone.

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) says 99% of its customers are back online as of Monday afternoon.

That leaves just under 5,700 households without power, with the vast majority of them located in and around King County.

According to PSE, last Tuesday’s storm system was comparable to a hurricane and left more than 600,000 residents without power at its peak.

Here in Whatcom County, Matt Klein with the county’s Division of Emergency Management says Sudden Valley got the worst of it.

23 homes were struck by trees during the storm and at least four residents were displaced, though no one was reported injured.

Gov. Jay Inslee says it may be weeks before residents know if they can apply for federal assistance.
