FIFA World Cup News

The FIFA World Cup is officially underway.

Mexico beat South Africa 2-0 in Mexico City this afternoon to kick off the largest World Cup in history. Czechia is set to play South Korea in the next match at 7:00 tonight.

The U.S. takes the field tomorrow night with its opening game against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in California. The match starts at 6:00 with Bellingham’s first official Fan Zone watch party taking place at Trackside Beer Garden on the downtown waterfront.

Canada is also playing Bosnia-Herzegovina at noon tomorrow in Toronto.

Vancouver will host its first match on Saturday night, before the action comes to Seattle on Monday afternoon.

Mariners News

The Mariners are currently playing the Orioles with a chance to clinch the series.

The M’s couldn’t get their bats going in a 7-2 loss last night.  Jackson Holliday hit a grand slam for Baltimore and Seattle managed just four hits as the Orioles picked up their first win of the series.

George Kirby gave up three runs while striking out 10 through six innings in the loss.

Bryan Woo and the Mariners will look to rebound tonight, while the Orioles will play for a draw in the final leg of their four-game series.

Coverage begins at 3:00 and first pitch is at 4:05 on KPUG.

Bells News

The Bells are also looking to earn a series win tonight, but they’re coming off an incredible comeback victory.

Bellingham rallied from a six-run deficit in the ninth inning to stun Nanaimo 11-10 last night. Dillon Moss got the ninth started with a 2-run home run before Bryce Johnson walked it off with a 2-run single to cap off a seven-run frame.

With the win, the Bells pulled their record above .500 and now sit just a game behind the NightOwls for second place in the North Division.

They’ll look to win the series tonight at Joe Martin Field. First pitch is at 6:35.

NBA/NHL Finals News

Speaking of improbable comebacks, the Knicks pulled off an all-timer at Madison Square Garden last night.

New York rallied from a 29-point deficit in the third quarter to shock the Spurs 107-106 in the largest comeback in NBA Finals history. Knicks forward OG Anunoby had a game-winning tip-in with a single second left to deliver the win in front of a frenzied home crowd.

They now lead the series three games to one and sit a win away from securing their first championship since 1973. The Spurs will look to keep their season alive on Saturday when the series heads back to San Antonio for Game 5.

Meanwhile, the Golden Knights and Hurricanes are currently playing in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals with the series tied at two games apiece.

Storm News

The Storm’s early-season woes persisted last night.

They fell to the Los Angeles Sparks 88-83 to drop their seventh straight game. Former Storm star Nneka Ogwumike scored 24 points in her return to Seattle to lead the Sparks.

All five starters for the Storm scored in double figures.

They’ll look to snap their skid tomorrow night when they host the Golden State Valkyries.
