The Kraken snapped their recent skid with a dominant win at home last night.
Seattle beat the New York Islanders 4-1 to avoid dropping their fifth straight. Vince Dunn and Jared McCann each had a goal and an assist in the win.
The Kraken will look to keep it up tomorrow night when they host the Anaheim Ducks in the third leg of their homestand. Coverage begins at 6:30 and puck drops at 7 on KGMI.
Meanwhile, rumors have spread that the Kraken could be open to moving former first-round pick Shane Wright in exchange for a top-six forward in the league.

The Seahawks’ general manager has won a prestigious award.
John Schneider was named the NFL’s Executive of the Year today for the first time in his career.
It comes after an eventful offseason where he shipped off Geno Smith and DK Metcalf and brought in Sam Darnold and Cooper Kupp. He also drafted several high-impact rookies, including Grey Zabel, Nick Emmanwori and Tory Horton.
Schneider continued his moves into the season by trading for Pro Bowl returner Rashid Shaheed.
Meanwhile, several Seahawks are among finalists for the league’s other awards.
Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is one of five finalists for Offensive Player of the Year, while Mike Macdonald is up for Coach of the Year. Safety Nick Emmanwori is a finalist for Defensive Rookie of the Year and offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak will be considered for Assistant Coach of the Year.
The winners will be announced on Feb. 5.

A Mariners’ division rival just made a big trade.
The AP reports that the Texas Rangers acquired All-Star lefty MacKenzie Gore from the Washington Nationals in exchange for five prospects.
The former No. 3 overall pick adds another arm to a Rangers starting rotation that ranked among the best in the majors last season.

The Huskies men came up just short in their upset bid last night.
UW fell to Nebraska 76-66 as the 7th nationally ranked Cornhuskers improved to 19-0. Hannes Steinbach led the Huskies with 21 points and 12 rebounds, but couldn’t help the team avoid dropping their third straight.
Meanwhile, the Huskies women beat Penn State 81-65. Former Nooksack Valley standout Devin Coppinger had nine points and five rebounds off the bench to help lead UW to its third straight win.
Elsewhere across the state, the Gonzaga men pounded Pepperdine 84-60 to win their 13th straight.
WNBA News
The Seattle Storm’s season schedule has just been released.
The Storm will open this season at home against the Golden State Valkyries on May 8. But that’s assuming the WNBA and the players’union can come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement before then.
The Storm are coming off a successful season where they took the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces to five games in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Nooksack boys topped Baker 73-54.
The Ferndale boys edged Oak Harbor 58-57.
And the Ferndale girls beat Oak Harbor 67-41.
