Mariners News

The Mariners will look to slow down the hottest team in baseball in their series opener tonight. The M’s are hosting the Milwaukee Brewers, who have won 10 straight games including two series sweeps over the defending champion Dodgers.

Seattle’s coming off a big series themselves where they took two out of three games against their division rival Houston Astros. Cole Young highlighted the weekend with a walk off hit in the 11th inning of Saturday’s game to clinch the series for the M’s. They couldn’t complete the sweep yesterday and fell to the Astros 11-3.

Houston now holds a four-game lead over Seattle for first place in the AL West, with the Mariners looking to make some more headway tonight.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG with George Kirby on the mound.

Bells News

The Bells beat the Victoria HarbourCats 4-2 last night at Joe Martin Field in the series rubber match. Bellingham trailed 2-1 heading into the eighth inning, but rallied for three runs to take the lead. All-Star Devyn Hernandez went on to throw a scoreless ninth inning to secure the series.

The HarbourCats were the best team in the North Division, with a 10-2 second-half record entering the series, but now sit just a game over the Bells.

The Bells will look to win their third straight tomorrow when they travel to play the Lefties in Port Angeles. The struggling Lefties have dropped 9 of their last 11 games.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks released tight end Noah Fant yesterday ahead of the start of training camp. The 27-year-old Fant spent the past three seasons in Seattle after being acquired in the 2022 blockbuster trade that sent Russell Wilson to Denver.

Fant racked up 130 receptions for 1,400 yards and five touchdowns across his Seahawks tenure. The Seahawks will save nearly $9 million in cap space with the move.

Second-year tight end AJ Barner and rookie Elijah Arroyo will look to take on a heavier workload with Fant now out of the picture.

Sounders News

The Sounders edged the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2 on Saturday. Danny Musovski scored two goals off the bench, his first multi-goal game since 2020, and Pedro de la Vega added a goal and an assist in the win. Andrew Thomas made his third consecutive start in place of injured Stefan Frei and had five saves for the Sounders.

Seattle’s now unbeaten in five straight matches since competing in the Club World Cup. They currently sit in fourth place in the Western Conference, six points behind first-place San Diego FC.

San Jose is now winless in six straight.

Storm News

Skylar Diggins made All-Star Game history in the WNBA on Saturday night. The Storm star recorded the event’s first-ever triple-double while helping lead Team Collier over Team Clark 151-131. Diggins had 11 points, 11 rebounds and 15 assists off the bench in the seventh All-Star game of her career.

Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier scored a record-breaking 36 points and earned MVP while helping lead her team to a win. Caitlin Clark sat out with a groin injury but still served as her teams’ namesake.

The game grew attention after players wore T-shirts reading “Pay us what you owe us” amid ongoing collective bargaining negotiations.

National News

President Donald Trump is threatening to hold up a new stadium deal for Washington’s NFL team if it does not restore its old name of the Redskins. Trump also said yesterday that he wants Cleveland’s baseball team to revert to its former name, the Indians.

The Washington Commanders and Cleveland Guardians have had their current names since their respective seasons in 2022, and both have said that they don’t plan to change them back.
