Mariners News

The streaking Mariners are kicking off their final road trip of the season today. They’re playing the Kansas City Royals with a chance to notch their 10th straight win.

After last night’s win by Houston, the Mariners own a half-game lead over the Astros for first place in the AL West with just 12 games to go in the season.

The M’s will look to rebound from their recent road trip woes after losing 15 of their last 20 away games. Meanwhile, they’ve been dominant at home, winning 20 of their last 23 games at T-Mobile Park.

This road trip will likely determine their playoff fate, since they cap it off in Houston for a three-game series against the Astros this weekend. But first they’ll have to get past the Royals, who are still vying for a wild card spot.

Logan Gilbert is on the mound for today’s series opener. First pitch is at 4:40 pm KPUG.

Storm News

It’s win or go home for the Seattle Storm tonight as they make their playoff debut in Seattle. They’re hosting the Las Vegas Aces in Game 2 of their best-of-three opening round series.

The Aces won Game 1 by 25 points on Sunday to push their win streak to 17. The Storm will look to get revenge on the Aces for eliminating them from the playoffs in two of the last three years, including a first-round sweep last year.

Tonight’s game tips off at 6:30 from Climate Pledge.

NFL News

A trio of former Seahawks couldn’t get the job done yesterday on Monday Night Football.

Pete Carroll, Geno Smith, Jamal Adams and the Las Vegas Raiders fell to the Los Angeles Chargers 20-9. Geno threw three interceptions and the Raiders’ offense struggled in the loss.

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers edged the Houston Texans 20-19 in the earlier game.

WWU Vikings News

A pair of Western Washington University volleyball players are earning recognition for the team’s recent success in Hawaii.

Junior outside hitter Delaney Speer was selected as MVP of the Aloha State Showdown Tournament over the weekend and senior outside hitter Devyn Oestreich netted a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

The Viks won all four of their matches in Hawaii to improve to 6-1 on the season. They’re also 3-1 against nationally ranked teams, and boast wins over two schools in the top five.

The Vikings open conference play this week when they travel to face Northwest Nazarene on Thursday.

They currently sit just one spot outside of the national top 25 coaches poll rankings.
