Mariners News

Bryce Miller is making his season debut on the mound tonight as the Mariners look to continue their dominance over the Astros.

It comes after the M’s routed their division rivals 10-2 last night in the second leg of their four-game series in Houston.

Cal Raleigh washed off his slump to help the Mariners push their franchise-best win streak to nine straight over the Astros. Raleigh says he took Logan Gilbert’s advice and took a shower in full uniform the night before. He then snapped his 0-38 stretch at the plate by hitting two singles in last night’s win.

Randy Arozarena aided the effort with a home run and two doubles on his way to a 4-4 day at the plate, and Dom Canzone added his first career grand slam in the offensive explosion. Bryan Woo earned the win after giving up two runs and striking out nine over six innings.

Coming up tonight, Bryce Miller is making his first appearance with the M’s since suffering an oblique injury in spring training. Coverage begins at 4:00 and first pitch is at 5:10 on KPUG.

WWU Vikings News

Western’s softball team is gearing up for its first game of the national tournament tomorrow afternoon.

The 7th-seeded Vikings are playing 2nd-seeded Cal State East Bay in the opening round of the NCAA D-II West Regional. The two teams have plenty of history, with each having mercy-ruled the other earlier this season.

The tournament is double-elimination, so even if the Vikings lose, they’ll still have a chance to keep their season alive on Friday.

First pitch for tomorrow’s game is at noon from Hayward, CA.  You can livestream the game for free on the GNAC Network website.

Lynden’s softball team has been crowned district champions.

The Lions edged Burlington-Edison 2-1 last night to win the 2A district title for the second straight year. Lynden now awaits its seeding for the state tournament, which begins next Friday.

Meanwhile, Sehome had its season ended in a loss to Archbishop Murphy. Ferndale also had its season come to a close after dropping a pair of games to Shorewood and Meadowdale.

A pair of Whatcom County schools are facing off tonight in the district baseball championship.

Top-seeded Sehome is playing 2nd-seeded Lynden, where the Lions will look to avenge their 8-0 loss at the hands of the Mariners earlier this season. Both teams have already clinched a spot at state.

First pitch for their 2A district title game is at 6:00 from Daniels Field in Anacortes.

We’ve also got another district championship taking place tonight in boys soccer. Lynden Christian is playing Meridian in the 1A title game at Blaine High School at 7:00.

The winner advances to the state tournament, while the loser will play either Nooksack Valley or Blaine for a second shot at state. The Borderites and Pioneers’ loser-out game starts at 4:30 from Blaine.

The 2A district title game between Lynden and Squalicum is being played tomorrow night at Civic Stadium.
