Mariners News

The Mariners are continuing their homestand against the San Diego Padres tonight just after Cal Raleigh made major league history.

Cal homered in each of his first two at-bats yesterday to overtake Salvador Perez for the most home runs by a catcher in a single season with 49. It was part of an 11-run barrage put on by the Mariners in the first three innings to take an 11-4 win over the Athletics in the rubber match.

Logan Gilbert set a career-high with 13 strikeouts in six innings of one-run ball to earn the win. Victor Robles hit a 2-run single in his first game with the Mariners since fracturing his shoulder in April. He’s being allowed to play while he appeals the 10-game suspension he received for throwing his bat at a pitcher in a minor league game with Tacoma.

Meanwhile, the club placed Dylan Moore on waivers to make space for Robles on the roster. Moore, who was previously the longest-tenured player on the Mariners’ roster, will now become a free agent.

The Mariners still sit two games behind the division-leading Houston Astros entering this next series against the Padres.  They’ll look to close the gap starting tonight with Bryce Miller on the mound.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks ran out of steam in their final preseason game. They lost to the Green Bay Packers 20-7 on Saturday to end the preseason at 1-1-1.

Rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe struggled in his first NFL start, losing three fumbles and getting sacked five times. Cody White caught the Seahawks’ sole touchdown of the day on an 18-yard pass from Milroe in the fourth quarter.

Seattle opens the season on the road against their division-rival San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Sept. 7. They’ll have to trim their roster down from 91 players to 53 in time for tomorrow’s NFL cutdown deadline at 1 pm.

Storm News

The Storm picked up a pair of key wins over the weekend. They throttled the Dallas Wings 95-60 on Friday behind a career-high 22 points from rookie Dominique Malonga.

Seattle followed it up with a tight 84-82 win over the Washington Mystics last night to earn their third-straight win. Nneka Ogwumike hit the game-winning shot as time expired to finish with 30 points on the day. Malonga added another 17 off the bench.

Next up for the Storm, they’ll travel to Indiana tomorrow to play the Fever, who are still without star point guard Caitlin Clark.

Sounders/Reign News

The Sounders beat Sporting Kansas City 5-2 last night. Danny Musovski scored three goals for his first career hat trick and his third multi-goal game in the last five.

Seattle rebounded from a 1-0 loss to Minnesota last week, which was their only loss since June 1. With the win, the Sounders into fourth place in the Western Conference.

They’re gearing up for this Wednesday’s match against the LA Galaxy in the Leagues Cup semifinals.

Meanwhile, the Reign played the Houston Dash to a 1-1 draw on Saturday. It was their second-straight tie and third straight game without a win.
