DEMING, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A much awaited housing project for Nooksack tribal members was completed earlier this week.

The tribe held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate the completion of three new tiny homes on Edith Dr.

“As you can see, we have some new homes in the neighborhood!” announced Nooksack Chairwoman RoseMary LaClair, gesturing to the new buildings behind her.

LaClair added that they’re grateful more of their members are finally off the waiting list for housing.

“Housing has always been an issue, so with these three tiny homes we’re able to address the 1- to 2-person household that’s on our waiting list.”

The Nooksack Housing Dept. says they’ve helped nearly 200 tribal members secure housing, whether they’re renting or participating in a homeownership program.

Additional housing projects for Nooksack members still on the waiting list will be announced in the near future.
