BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Thousands of state residents could be in for a payday after a cyberattack at a Whatcom County medical center.

Mt. Baker Imaging and Northwest Radiologists received preliminary approval for a $3.3 million settlement in April stemming from a data breach in January 2025.

Over 348,000 Washington residents were impacted by the breach. Mount Baker Imaging and Northwest Radiologists claim none of the compromised information was used maliciously.

The two businesses were still sued in Whatcom County Superior Court by several patients who claimed they didn’t do enough to inform people about the incident. As a result of the settlement, any patient whose data was potentially or actually compromised in the breach is entitled to up to $5,000.

Claims need to be submitted by August 19 ahead of final hearing for the settlement on August 21. Patients also have until July 20 to opt out of the settlement if they want to file their own lawsuit.

The settlement was first reported by Cascadia Daily News.

Nutrition apps can help build healthy habits. For some users, their gaming features carry risks

Green means go, red means stop. Trophies or confetti come with good performance, and people who fall behind get nudged to do better. Those brightly colored engagement tactics long ago jumped from smartphone games to everything from online shopping to sports betting and classrooms. So it should come as no surprise that many nutrition-tracking apps like MyFitnessPal and Noom also use gaming features to keep users coming back.
