MOUNT BAKER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Skiers and snowboarders finally have an answer as to when their season begins in the North Cascades.

Gwyn Howat with the Mount Baker Ski Area says that enough snow fell over the weekend to confirm their 2024 opening dates.

People with season passes can hit the slopes starting on Wednesday, Nov. 20, and everyone else can join them at Heather Meadows on Nov. 21.

“This weekend storm has really helped us out,” Howat says. “With lots of new snow we’re looking good!”

Howat adds that the weekend snowstorm system was more than generous for mountain conditions. Heather Meadows has a nearly 5-foot snow base, and 78 inches was reported at Pan Dome.

In the meantime, mountain adventurers are advised to explore at their own risk, avoid restricted areas and not to tamper with equipment or machinery.
