BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man accused of committing a hate crime in the Bellingham Walmart bathroom made his first court appearance.
Court documents state that 51-year-old Terry Young, who is white, hurled racist insults at the Hispanic victim and his son in the men’s bathroom.
The victim told investigators that while trying to get his child to safety, Young made direct threats to kill him while making statements like “go back to your country” and “I’m white, you’re not.”
Officers were unable to locate Young after the Sept. 2 incident, but he was found and arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Young remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $20k bail.
