Marblemount Bridge closes, North Cascades Hwy nears reopening

MARBLEMOUNT, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Some changes have come to the North Cascades Highway and its nearby roads.

A bridge in Skagit County has closed for the next few weeks.

Skagit County Public Works announced the overnight closure of the Marblemount Bridge starting Monday, June 1. The bridge is expected to be closed for nearly three weeks as part of a bridge rehabilitation project.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that the bridge was closed last September as part of the same project to rehabilitate the bridge’s aging infrastructure. Though the bridge isn’t on the highway, its proximity to SR 20 will affect locals and travelers who will need to seek alternate routes.

Meanwhile, a major hurdle in the reopening of the North Cascades Highway has been cleared.

WSDOT said the highway’s westside closure point has moved to Ross Dam Trailhead over the weekend.

This comes as crews wrap the first of two emergency repairs to the highway. The highway is still on track for a June 25 reopening date.
