LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Lynden School Board will be discussing a proposed resolution in the wake of a political activist’s assassination.

Resolution 13-25, if approved, would designate the Monday before Sept. 10 as “Charles James Kirk Day” each year for the Lynden School District.

No specific events for the date were outlined in the board’s proposal, but they suggest that students take charge of whatever observations end up occurring.

The resolution was created days after a candlelight vigil was held at Bender Ball Field for Kirk, who was assassinated on the campus of Utah Valley University.

In addition to the new date designation, the resolution also supports the creation of debate clubs and other opportunities for students to engage in civil discourse.

The board will discuss the resolution at their meeting on Thursday, Sept. 18.

Members of the public who would like to comment on the resolution are asked to sign up in person ahead of the 6:30 p.m. start time.
