Lynden narrows search for new chief of police, community invited to meet final candidates

LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Residents in Lynden have a chance to weigh in on their next chief of police.

The city is inviting the community to meet the final candidates for police chief during a public meet and greet this Monday, Oct. 27.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that former police chief, Steve Taylor, retired at the end of August after spending nearly six years with the department.

The city has now narrowed its search for his successor down to four finalists.

Each candidate will give a brief overview of their career and experience before community members have a chance to give their feedback at the end of the event.

Monday’s meet and greet runs from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the City Hall Annex Building.

The finalists, with information provided by the city:

  • Jeremy Bos – Lieutenant of Operations for the City of Lynden Police Department. Jeremy has been in law enforcement since 1995 and with Lynden PD since 1999.
  • James Miyashiro – Assistant Vice President/Chief for Public Safety at the University of San Diego. He has over 25 years of experience as a Chief of Police, including service with the Riverside College District and Santa Ana School District Police Departments.
  • Ronald Phillips – Administrative Sergeant with the Casselberry Police Department. Ronald has over 33 years of law enforcement experience.
  • Tawsha Thompson – Detective with the Lynden Police Department and former Bellingham Police Department officer. Tawsha has over 27 years of law enforcement experience.

The candidates will participate in interviews and other selection activities the following day, Tuesday, October 28, 2025, as part of the city’s evaluation process.
