WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – If sunshine on your shoulders makes you happy, you are in luck. The weather looks spectacular this weekend in Bellingham and there’s a ton of fun activities on the docket in this week’s Lifestyle Lookout.

The 2026 Cascadia International Women’s Film Festival runs through Sunday, May 3 at venues including the Pickford Film Center and Mount Baker Theatre. The multi-day festival celebrates international cinema, art, filmmakers and cinephiles with a focus on the power of women’s filmmaking.

Film screenings, artist talks, workshops and a 10-year anniversary party are all on the schedule. So, if you are an aspiring filmmaker, a lover of cinema, or just want to watch some good flicks, head downtown this weekend to take it all in.

For a full schedule, go to cascadiafilmfest.org. Listen to KGMI’s interview with award-winning director Ondi Timoner here.

In other movie news, Monday is May 4 and that means it’s time for the Mount Baker Theatre to host a viewing of Star Wars. This year, they’ll play Return of the Jedi in all its glory.

For tickets to ROTJ, go to mountbakertheatre.com.

There are plenty of fun outdoor activities in Bellingham this weekend too.

First up, Procession of the Species is on Saturday, May 2. This celebration of nature, art and community features a parade through Bellingham with participants dressed in wildlife costumes.

The procession starts at 2 p.m. at the corner of Cornwall and Ohio St. and runs through downtown to Maritime Heritage Park. From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. there will be a celebration at the park with live performances, chalk art, education tables and interactive games.

For all the details, go to gabrielsartkids.com.

Procession of the Species is part of Allied Arts Children’s Art Walk event that runs through May 15. Stroll around downtown and check out artwork at local businesses created by students in Whatcom County. It kicks off on Friday night, May 1 with live music, fun activities and more.

We have two featured live shows for you in this week’s Lifestyle Lookout.

The Budos Band is performing at Wild Buffalo on Saturday night. Their hypnotic, horn-filled grooves will keep you dancing all night long.

The show starts at 9 p.m. For tickets, go to wildbuffalo.net.

Also on Saturday night, Nobody’s Peach will take the stage at Shakedown for a night of alt country and folk rock. The band is described as a “funky lil country-rock band from the PNW” and that description fits them perfectly.

Nobody’s Peach is performing with The Jesus Chords and Will Rainier. For tickets, go to shakedownbellingham.com.
