BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – We are expecting a wee spot of wet weather to start off the weekend in Whatcom County, but don’t let that put a damper on your plans. We have a full docket of fun events for you in this week’s Lifestyle Lookout.

First Fridays in downtown Bellingham offers visitors a great opportunity to stroll around from business to business, take in live music, art, food and a whole lot more. For a full list of the fun, go here.

The Whatcom Museum is offering free admission on Friday, June 5 with extended hours running from noon to 9 p.m. Explore art and history exhibits at the Lightcatcher and Old City Hall locations featuring local and indigenous artists.

Folks can also wander down the hill to Bellingham’s waterfront on Friday to enjoy Tides and Tunes on the Pier. Located on the Central Avenue Pier in front of the Granary Building, this event features live music and special events at nearby businesses.

Expect plenty of delicious food, face painting, hair braiding and a whole lot more.

There will be a free bike valet for cyclists. Tides and Tunes on the Pier runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

For film lovers, the Pickford Film Center is hosting Bleak Week: Cinema of Despair all week long.

Films like A Serious Man, Wendy and Lucy, Brazil and The Deerhunter are just a few of the great featured movies that explore dark themes and the bleaker aspects of human history. Béla Tarr’s masterpiece Werckmeister Harmonies is a must see for fans of foreign cinema.

Bleak Week runs through Thursday, June 11.

If you are a fan of Gaelic culture, you are in luck. The Bellingham Scottish Gathering is this weekend in Blaine.

Featuring bagpipes, dancing, boat rides, a beer garden, storytelling and a Clydesdale exhibit, Scottish culture will be on full display at Marine Park (272 Marine Dr.) on Saturday, June 6 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

It is a fun event for the whole family, but dogs are not permitted.

Our featured live show this week is at the Shakedown on Saturday night. Heels to the Hardwood will bring their brand of Americana to the stage for a night of good old-fashioned melodies and pedal steel country sonics.

Opening for Heels to the Hardwood are Forest Stoke and The Stardust Rangers. The show starts at 9 p.m.
