GALBRAITH MOUNTAIN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Part of a popular mountain biking spot will be closed in the coming days.

Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition executive director Eric Brown says southside access to Galbraith Mountain will be closed beginning Nov. 11 or 12.

Logging companies are currently harvesting 20 acres of wood on the mountain, which will affect trail access. Janicki, one of the logging companies, had to move harvesting to earlier in the year for scheduling reasons.

According to Brown, logging on the mountain is allowed in the 2018 easement the City of Bellingham put on Galbraith, which prevents development and encourages recreation.

“We have a lot of autonomy. There’s a lot of trust there,” Brown said in an Oct. 29 video posted to Facebook. “So just remind everybody that we have this great partnership with Janicki and we built a lot of the trails we have because of the logging operation, not in spite of it.”

In an Oct. 24 video posted online, Brown says that the access trails Last Call and Gate and Switch will be closed last during the logging.

In an email on Nov. 8, Brown clarified that they have a plan that will likely limit the closure for a couple of days.
