BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for Bellingham and the surrounding areas through the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Wind chills could be as low as five degrees with winds out of the northeast. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.

So far, there are reports of 2″ to 4″ of accumulation in the Bellingham area, with reports of 4″ to 8″ in the north county. Western Whatcom County is expected to see less than an inch of snow accumulation through Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 4. NWS adds that the county will likely see more snow showers beginning Friday, Jan. 7, and into the weekend.

Schools across Whatcom County are closed on Monday, Feb. 3 due to the weather. Find a full list of closures and delays here.

The Northwest Avalanche Center says that dangerous conditions for avalanches will continue through midweek.

NWS also wants drivers to be aware of the presence of black ice in the coming days, as the low temps may refreeze any melted ice or snow overnight.
