BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The second phase of construction for the Pacific Street Operations Center has begun the week of July 26.

The original Public Works building that stood before, was built in 1969. Many long-time employees said goodbye to their offices and fond memories of the building last year when the building was torn down. As of last May, the Pacific Street Operations Center was fully finalized and running.

Funding for the project comes from the Street Fund, Storm Fund, Water Fund and Sewer Fund.

The next phase will include the demolition and rebuilding of a vehicle barn. The construction may cause some parts of Pacific Street to be closed.

The city says this project is part of its multi-year plan to upgrade aging buildings to be more energy and cost-efficient and will serve the community’s needs.

This second phase of construction is expected to not be complete until 2026.
