BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Storing your bike in the heart of Bellingham is about to get a lot safer.

The Bellingham City Council discussed the planning for new downtown bicycle lockers in a public works committee hearing on Aug. 26.

Six lockers will be installed at the Commercial Street Parking Garage and eight more will be located next to the WTA Bellingham Station at the corner of Railroad Avenue and Champion Street. Bike riders can use them by downloading a mobile app called Movatic and loading a minimum of five dollars into their account.

The lockers will cost five cents per hour for up to ten days and then increase to 12 cents per hour.

If a bike is left there for 14 days straight, it will be considered abandoned and removed.

The city says it has seen rising demand for secure bike storage after the 182 bike thefts that were reported in 2023.
