OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The mountain snowpack remains well below normal despite recent storms that have brought substantial snowfall to the high country.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service says poor snowfall to begin the season was followed by a notable heat wave that caused significant melting in late January.

February storms helped but snowpack in all regions in the state are below or well below normal for this time of year.

The agency’s report says things don’t look good for major recovery during March.

They’re warning water resource managers to plan for negative impacts to summer water supplies if significant snowfall doesn’t materialize.
