BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The City of Bellingham is seeking volunteers to write pro and con statements for several upcoming initiatives.

Bellingham voters will decide on three initiatives in the November general election.

One aims to ban landlords and rental owners from using paid software to analyze and set rental prices for their area.

Another would eliminate the requirement that the mayor be the highest paid city employee. It would amend the county charter to have the mayor’s salary decided upon by the same commission that sets the city council’s pay, which is done every eight years.

The final initiative seeks to streamline the city’s contracting process by allowing the mayor to designate someone to sign contracts for them. The charter amendment would also allow the city to use electronic signatures by eliminating other existing requirements.

Volunteers interested in writing pro or con statements for any of the initiatives should email Deputy City Administrator Janice Keller at jkeller@cob.org with their name, phone number, the committee they wish to serve on along with any additional information by 5 p.m. on July 27.

You can find more information about the initiatives on the Bellingham City Council’s July 13 agenda packet under “Committee of the Whole.”
