BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University will reopen reopen the Viking Union today, Thursday, February 24th, after investigating a firearm threat earlier this week.
In an email sent to students and faculty, WWU officials allowed essential workers to return to the Viking Union yesterday afternoon.
The Viking Union will formally reopen at 7 a.m. this morning for all community members.
The closure was prompted by email threats sent to two departments on Tuesday, February 22nd.
Campus officials say that no additional threats were made to any person or building during the investigation.
They added that while there was speculation that the threat was made against Black History Month events on campus, no evidence was found to support that rumor.
Despite their findings, the campus will see additional public safety patrols as a precaution.
