BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Another Asian giant hornet was found in Whatcom County.

According to the state Department of Agriculture, a Bellingham resident reported a suspected sighting of the invasive hornet on Saturday, June 6, after they found the insect on their porch.

The WSDA photographed and collected the specimen, and state and federal labs confirmed that it was indeed an Asian giant hornet.

The nearest Asian giant hornet was found 15 miles away in Custer on May 27.

If it becomes established, this species will have negative impacts on the environment, economy, and public health of Washington State.
