BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A commission focusing on racial equity in Whatcom County is seeking community support.

The county, in conjunction with the City of Bellingham, will launch the Whatcom Racial Equity Commission this month.

They are looking for four community members to join its Appointment Committee, which will help determine the makeup of the Commission.

Later this month, county officials will also be looking for a local nonprofit organization to support the Commission’s work.

Whatcom County Councilmembers voted to create the Commission in October.

More information on how to apply as either a community member or nonprofit can be found on the Whatcom County website.
