CHEHALIS, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol is mourning the loss of Trooper Justin Shaffer, who was hit and killed by a fleeing suspect on I-5 near Chehalis Tuesday afternoon.
The Patrol says Shaffer was putting down a spike strip when he was hit by the suspect’s pick-up truck.
The 28-year-old served with the Patrol for seven years.
The Patrol says its working with Shaffer’s family to plan a memorial service in line with current limits on large gatherings.
