MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A man who pled guilty in the attempted murder of a Sedro-Woolley man was sentenced Thursday to nearly eight years in prison.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports Cody Francis Kingston shot George Albert Nelson Jr. multiple times in 2016 because of accusations Nelson had raped a young teen girl.

57-year-old Nelson was charged with child rape in June 2017, and has a trial set for September.

Kingston was deemed incompetent to stand trial and had to undergo treatment.

At his sentencing hearing, the Skagit Valley Herald reports Nelson’s lawyer said the shooting left Nelson permanently disabled.
