Report: Seattle ferry crash potentially caused by sleep deprived captain

BELLINGHAM, WA – A sleepy captain may have been to blame for a ferry crash in Seattle, according to a report released yesterday Thursday.

The National Transportation Safety Board determined that “fatigue and complacency” were the main causes of last year’s Cathlamet ferry collision with a terminal structure.

Their report says the captain was sleep deprived and likely experienced a “microsleep.”

The incident resulted in over $10 million worth of damage to the ferry and the terminal.

Investigators say the captain did not know what happened or know how the ferry crashed.

94 people were on board when the ferry collided with the terminal and one minor injury was reported.
