BIRCH BAY, Wash. — Whatcom County Executive Jack Louws allowed a Local Proclamation of Emergency after the lashing of Thursday’s windstorm.

The Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management went on alert, saying they will continue at an increased level of readiness through Friday.

Deputy Director of the WCSO John Gargett says Birch Bay was the hardest hit area where roads were significantly damaged, and the Bay Breeze Restaurant & Bar was destroyed by intense flooding.

Birch Bay Drive between Harborview and Shintaffer roads is closed until further notice.

Due to Point Roberts losing all power, they’ve opened the Community Center and Fire Station using an emergency generator.

Gargett expects it to take days for PSE to restore power to all of their customers.
