NORTH CASCADES, Wash. – The Northwest Avalanche Center has issued a special bulletin warning of dangerous conditions across our local mountain ranges over the next two days.

The bulletin states a current increase of temperatures following weeks of below-normal temps in the mountains will cause an increased likelihood of avalanches and cornice fall.

Cornice fall is the release of an overhanging mass of snow.

The agency suggests anyone considering backcountry travel do so in the early mornings when conditions will be safest.

The warning is in effect until Saturday, April 29th, at 6 p.m. and could be extended into Sunday depending on conditions.
