BELLINGHAM, Wash.- No changes in position in the latest count of primary ballots in the 42nd Legislative District in Whatcom County.
For State Senate, Democrat Sharon Shewmake is still ahead with just over 47% of the vote.
Republicans Simon Sefzik and Ben Elenbaas remain second and third with 33% and 19% respectively.
Democratic incumbent Alicia Rule remains ahead in the race for the Position 1 House seat with 49%, while Republican Tawsha Thompson is second with 35% and Kamal Bhachu trails with 16%.
The open Position 2 House seat remains very close with Democrat Joe Timmons and Republican Dan Johnson one and two with 29% and 28% respectively, followed by Republican Kyle Christensen and Democrat Richard May.
Attorney Jonathan Rands continues to lead the race for Whatcom County Superior Court Judge, with Gordon Jenkins in second place.
Democrat Steve Hobbs holds a big lead with about 42% over a crowded field of challengers for Secretary of State.
In the 2nd Congressional District Democratic incumbent Rick Larsen looks likely to face Republican Dan Matthews in the General Election.
In the race for U.S. Senate, Patty Murray will face-off against Republican challenger Tiffany Smiley.
The two Republican members of Congress from Washington who were vilified by their party because of their votes to impeach former President Trump appear to be surviving primary challenges.
3rd District Representative JaimeHerrera Beutler currently has about 25% of the vote, while her Trump-endorsed challenger Joe Kent trails with 20%.
Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is in first place in that race with nearly 32%.
4th District Representative Dan Newhouse has just over 27% of the vote, followed by Democrat Doug White, who has about 26%.
Loren Culp, a Trump-endorsed former small town police chief who lost the 2020 governor’s race to Jay Inslee, is just under 22%.
