OLYMPIA, Wash. – Health officials are reminding Washingtonians to know and follow preventative measures after another bat has tested positive for rabies.

KIRO reports the latest case was confirmed this past Monday, August 28th, in Snohomish County where exposure was limited to some family pets.

The Washington State Department of Health say there are now 11 confirmed cases of rabid bats across 10 counties since June, with Whatcom seeing its first case confirmed in July.

Residents are urged to avoid all contact with bats as a rabies-infected bat can be undetectable by sight, and exposure can happen through a scratch or bite, or waking up to find a bat in the room you were sleeping.

All pets should be kept up to date with rabies vaccines.
